Cornwall - November 20, 2011 - Perhaps Roman Ammirato wishes the Cornwall Colts would play more Saturday afternoon. Ammirato had four goals and an assist to lead the hometown Cornwall Colts to a 7-3 victory over the Kemptville 73’s in a rare Saturday afternoon tilt at the Ed Lumley Arena.

The Colts scored early and often with Ammirato notching his first of the game just fifteen seconds in. Alexandre Gendron made it 2-0 at 8:02 of the first.

Ammirato got his second of the game at 3:44 of the middle stanza before Ben Hutton brought Kemptville within two at a goal at 5:19. Ten seconds later Ammirato returned Cornwall’s three goal lead. Kemptville’s Blaine Byron made it 4-2 to end the second period.

Cornwall scored the next three goals to jump out to a 7-2 lead. Third period scorers were Michael Borkowski, Ammirato and Tylor Spink. Hiio Herne of Kemptive scored the game’s tenth and final goal at 16:31 of the third.

It was a tame affair with only 22 minutes in penalties. Matt Jenkins made 24 saves for the win. The three stars were Ammirato (1st), Tylor Spink (2nd) and Borkowski (3rd). The game was played in front of 730 spectators.

With the win, Cornwall’s record improves to 19-6-0-1 and Kemptville falls to 5-19-0-3. Cornwall’s next game is this Thursday night when they once again play host to the Kemptville 73’s. Game time is 7:30 pm.
