Ottawa - Oct. 25, 2011 - The Senators will be short one of their best players tomorrow night. Captain Daniel Alfredsson will not dress for the Senators game against the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow night in Raleigh, North Carolina. Alfredsson is back in Ottawa nursing a hip flexor injury that he claims has been bothering him all year and has been slowly building up.

At 38, Alfredsson is playing well after having off-season surgery. Game by game, he claims that it’s been getting worse and that taking tomorrow night’s game off is simply a rest from the wear or tear. On the turnover that led to the Blue Jackets getting a late penalty, which turned out to be the turning point in the game, Alfredsson was hauled down while on a breakaway.

It was the type of play that could’ve aggravated his hip flexor even more and has finally caused him to miss Tuesday’s game.

Alfredsson is having a great year and has five points in the Senators previous three games. He scored the winning shootout goal in the Minnesota game, the game clinching goal in the Jets game and made the crucial turnover that changed the Blue Jackets game.

He’s played a huge role in all three wins for the Senators this season. The early report is that Alfredsson will play against the Florida Panthers at home on Thursday. The Senators cannot afford to miss Alfredsson for any length of time.

In his place, Kaspars Daugavins has been called up from the Binghamton Senators. Daugavins is the 2nd leading scorer for the Baby Sens with six points (4 goals, 2 assists) in seven games.

Binghamton Senators

After a rough start where the Baby Senators lost their first three games, two in regulation time, the Senators minor league affiliate has won three of their last four games to even their record at 3-3-1. Mark Parish leads the team with seven points in seven games.

Goaltender Robin Lehner, the future goaltender for the Ottawa Senators is 3-2 with a 2.90gaa and a save percentage of .920 in the five games that he’s played. The Ottawa Senators could use that type of goaltending. My guess is that Lehner will make the big club next season.

Here is the best response which I thought I’d answer this time:

“Nice win on against the Blue Jackets. Alfie sure changed the game”. - Cory Runnals
