Ontario - the broke and the broken
In eight years of leadership by Premier Dalton McGuinty, Ontarians have not seen a balanced budget. If you take all of the deficits from the other nine provinces and three territories in the country, added them together and then doubled it, Ontario's deficit would still be higher.

South Dundas - March 27, 2012 - $1322.79. That is the amount of the deficit for each and every man, woman and child in Ontario. 17 billion dollars total. In eight years of leadership by Premier Dalton McGuinty, Ontarians have not seen a balanced budget. If you take all of the deficits from the other nine provinces and three territories in the country, added them together and then doubled it, Ontario's deficit would still be higher.

The provincial debt has nearly doubled to 260 Billion Dollars. That debt is larger than the remaining nine provinces and three territories, combined. The payments to service that debt is the third largest single expense in the provincial budget after Health Care and Education. Ten Billion Dollars per year is spent just paying the interest on that debt. If the province's credit rating gets lowered, that amount will double.

The province is broke and living off credit cards. Sadly the credit cards are running out and we're stuck holding the bill.

Tuesday's budget was billed as being 'tough'. Tough on everyone, seniors, the poor, the unions. It was not. It was weak, flaccid, and feckless.

Unions, Civil servants and MPP's are getting their wages frozen. They can all afford it. Those living on Disability and Welfare will also get their payments frozen. They cannot afford it. Living at the poverty level for some would be an improvement.

No programs are getting cut in this budget. Six hospital construction projects are derailed, but they are in opposition ridings so that is just politics. Not one goody-goody policy of the Liberal party is getting cut though. All-day kindergarten stays, smaller class sizes stays, green energy stays.

Meanwhile to appease their partners on the left, the NDP, corporate tax cuts will get axed. Also energy rebates for business will get capped. Can you give one good reason why any company would open their doors in Ontario? High wages, high energy costs, high taxes.

The only good thing that came out of the budget was that Dalton McGuinty and Dwight Duncan have cemented their places as the worse Premier and Finance Ministers ever in Ontario history. To surpass Bob Rae and Floyd Laughren is no easy feat. And all it took was running the province into the ground.
