McGuinty Liberals have made life unaffordable for Ontario families
Last July 1, 2010, Dalton “The Tax Man” McGuinty introduced the largest sales tax increase in Ontario’s history, the HST. On the same day, he hit a double play when he tried to quietly slide in the eco tax, under the cover of the HST. It’s clear Ontario families need relief. They need change.

Lancaster - Jul. 7, 2011 - Last July 1, 2010, Dalton “The Tax Man” McGuinty introduced the largest sales tax increase in Ontario’s history, the HST. On the same day, he hit a double play when he tried to quietly slide in the eco tax, under the cover of the HST. Ontario families did not need an umpire to make the call; they knew the instant it hit their wallets. This was a tax grab to hide a tax grab.

Sadly, for the last eight years, under Dalton McGuinty, too many new and unexpected taxes and costs have been sprung on Ontario families – making it harder and harder for them to balance their budgets. From the HST to the health tax, from skyrocketing hydro bills and sneaky eco taxes, Dalton McGuinty’s Liberals have made life unaffordable for Ontario families. To make matters worse, eco taxes do little to improve the environment. In fact, last fall we learned that only 2% of electronics had been reused. There were $33 million in eco taxes collected in 2009. And just last week, Ontario families learned there is $20 million sitting unused in a bank account – proof eco taxes are just another tax grab. Ontario Families already pay high electricity prices. They do not need to pay extra taxes on the things they plug in, like laptops and Xboxes.

It’s clear they need relief. They need change. That’s why an Ontario PC government will eliminate Dalton McGuinty’s sneaky eco taxes once and for all.

Only a Tim Hudak government will provide relief for families by taking the HST and Debt Retirement Charge off home energy and home heating bills, lowering income taxes by 5%, and allowing couples to share up to $50,000 of their income for tax purposes. This will put money back in our pockets, money for us to spend on the little things that make a difference. He will bring change that will put people back to work and help put Ontario back on the road to prosperity.

This October, we need to bring change to the province of Ontario. Change that will restore Ontario to a “have” province and lead Canada into years of prosperity. You can make a difference by logging on to our website, taking a sign, volunteering your time or making a donation. We need your support and help to ensure we have a Tim Hudak Progressive Conservative government on October 6, 2011.
