Cornwall - Jan. 31, 2012 - Starting in the January 2012 winter semester, full-time undergraduate university and college students who apply will receive 30% off their tuition. University and college degree students will receive $800 and college diploma and certificate students will receive $365. To be eligible, you must be a full-time student at a public college or university in Ontario, in a first-entry program. You must be a resident of Ontario. It cannot have been more than four years since you left high school. Your, or your parent’s gross income must be $160,000 or less and you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a protected person.

You must apply by March 31st, 2012 to receive the grant for the January 2012 semester payment. It will either be directly deposited into your bank account or a cheque will be sent to the address on file if you receive OSAP. If you do not receive OSAP, a cheque will be sent to the mailing address that you provide. The grant is expected to arrive within four to six weeks of your finished application.

While the grant is based on average tuition costs, and will not cover 30% of some program tuitions, it is expected to provide assistance to families who need it. The grant is also expected to give the chance to students who could not go to college or university otherwise. In future semesters, the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities is looking to have students receive their grant before their tuition bill arrives.

If you already receive OSAP, you will automatically be considered for the grant. If not, you must apply by visiting Ontario.ca/30off. For more information, visit osap.gov.on.ca
