Zumbatomic, a version of Zumba tailored to what a child can do

Cornwall - Jan. 22, 2012 - While Adele Wilson teaches Zumba Fitness at Curves every Thursday, she also has several classes outside of the gym. Zumbatomic, a version of Zumba tailored to what a child can do, seems to be her favourite. “Really, the reason I wanted to become a Zumba instructor was because I’m a teacher during the day, a classroom teacher, and I thought ‘What a great way to get kids into shape, and to have fun.’ Because we have a Zumba program for kids, and it’s called Zumbatomic, and that’s something I was super passionate about. It’s Zumba for kids, so we obviously change some of the movements, and we’re careful with the songs that we choose.” Says Adele while discussing how she came to be a Zumba instructor.

“The awesome thing about Zumbatomic is the parents drop their kids off, then we do the class and learn one song and then when the parents come back to pick their kids up, we do a little mini performance.” Adele explains, “It’s really nice because a lot of kids nowadays are in these dance classes, which are great. I mean, any physical activity for kids is great, but that makes a lot of pressure for some kids. When you work all year in preparation for this big recital. For a lot of kids, it’s kind of too much at the end and it’s a lot of pressure on them. This is really cool though, because it’s every day. You know, every time you come to class, you learn a little bit and we play a lot of games and it’s so good for their confidence and their leadership abilities. Then at the end they get to show their parents their song and they’re so proud to show them. It’s a super great program.”

“The people who’ve been coming to my class, there’s a lot of family and friends and people who are trying it for the first time, and they just love it. They say it is so much fun. One girl even said that I seemed like such a happy person. In the end, that’s my goal. To be energetic in class so the participants feel like they’re having a good time, and they’re happy to be working out.”

So far, the response to her classes has been great, and she has just come to an agreement to give herself another space. “I’m actually going to be starting at the Benson Centre on Saturday. I’m going to be doing Zumbatomic there on Saturday mornings, and I also do Zumbatomic Wednesday nights, which is at my new location, Army Navy.”
