On this Date - Sens select Bryan Berard first overall
On this date in NHL history, at the NHL Draft in Edmonton, the Ottawa Senators made Bryan Berard the third American born player to be selected first overall in the Entry Draft. In a major trade during the 1995 NHL Draft in Edmonton, the Vancouver Canucks obtained Alexander Mogilny from Buffalo, in exchange for Mike Peca, Mike Wilson, and their #1 pick (Jay McKee) in the draft held that day.

Stoney Point - July 8, 2015 - On this date in NHL history, at the NHL Draft in Edmonton in 1995, the Ottawa Senators made Bryan Berard the third American born player to be selected first overall in the Entry Draft.

1949 - Former NHL goalie Michel Dumas born in St. Antoine-de-Pontbriand, Quebec. Dumas played in the NHL 1974-75 through 1976-77 with Chicago.

1963 - Former NHL center Mike Ridley born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Ridley played in the NHL 1985-86 thru 1996-97 with the New York Rangers, Washington, Toronto, and Vancouver.

1988 - Boston Bruins signed free agent defenseman Garry Galley.

1995 - In a major trade during the 1995 NHL Draft in Edmonton, the Vancouver Canucks obtained Alexander Mogilny from Buffalo, in exchange for Mike Peca, Mike Wilson, and their #1 pick (Jay McKee) in the draft held that day.

1995 - In their second trade during the 1995 NHL Draft, the Vancouver Canucks obtained Mike Ridley from Toronto, in exchange for Sergio Momesso. Earlier in the day the Canucks obtained Alexander Mogilny from Buffalo.

1995 - Toronto Maple Leafs obtained veteran defenseman Larry Murphy from the Pittsburgh Penguins, in exchange for Dmitri Mironov and a second round pick in the 1996 Draft.

1996 - St. Louis signed free agent Joe Murphy.

1999 - New York Rangers signed unrestricted free agent Theo Fleury.
