Cornwall - Jan. 28, 2011 - The Cornwall Colts have already shown they can score goals in bunches. Now they're showing they can score goals in key situations.

The league-leading Colts fell behind to Smiths Falls three times last night before rallying in the third period to pull out a 4-3 win over the Bears, much to the delight of the 1,173 spectators on hand at the Cornwall Civic Complex.

Cody Sarmiento tied the game with roughly 11 minutes remaining and Ty Perry notched the game-winner a few minutes later to secure the victory for the Colts, who now sit with a league-best 41-7-1-0 record (83 points).

As is often the case, captain Jacob Laliberte also figured on the score sheet, notching the Colts' two other goals. Jeff Carroll lead the Bears with two goals, while Mike McNamee has a single marker.

The Colts will be back in action on Saturday for a rare matinee contest against the Ottawa Junior Senators at the Cornwall Civic Complex. Game time is 2:30 p.m.

GAME NOTES - The recently-acquired Matt Jenkins got the start in nets for the Colts, stopping 17 of 20 shots . . . . Forward Tylor Spink skated slowly to the Colts' bench after taking a hard hit into the boards during the second period. Spink briefly left the game before returning to the ice in the third period . . . . Towering defenceman Matthew Zanardo scored a victory over Brett DuPuy of the Bears when the two dropped the gloves late in the second period . . . . With the two-goal performance, Laliberte reached the 50-goal mark on the season, accomplishing the feat in 49 games. Mitch Zion made sure to grab the game puck after the final buzzer - likely as a keepsake for his teammate. Laliberte, Sarmiento and Carroll of the Bears were named the three stars of the game.
